November is recognized as "National Adoption Month." LCWTA has partnered with DCFS the past few years to help put on their Annual Adoption Celebration. Here is what Cheryl, DCFS Adoption Program and Child Welfare Manager has to say about the upcoming event:
"November kicks off our favorite time of the year- National Adoption Month. DCFS is excited to celebrate 470 families adopting 612 children and youth this federal fiscal year! What a huge accomplishment, despite the challenging times, that the department ensured that our children, who were not able to be reunited with family, had a forever home to call their own.
We will be celebrating each of those families on November 18, 2021 at our 23rd Annual Adoption Celebration. This will be our second year to hold the event virtually. Our families can look forward to an exciting hour of fun and recognition. The First Lady, Donna Edwards, along with our very own Secretary Marketa Walters will be present to offer a special message to our families. Our families will also enjoy receiving a “surprise” in the mail, along with a certificate signed by Governor John Bel Edwards.
The event will not only recognize the families but some outstanding adoption advocates, workers, and community partners. As the saying goes, “it takes a village”, this sentiment rings true in our agency, it truly takes everyone from adoptive parents, to workers, to judges, to recruiters, and to the child themselves, to ensure every child has a permanent home. As we celebrate all those touched by adoption this year, let’s not forget that adoption is not just an event, but rather a lifelong journey!"
